Comment library

Save reusable narratives and findings on a template, insert them while inspecting, and keep them up to date from the Template step.

The comment library holds the text you write on most inspections: roof narratives, limitation notes, common defects. It lives on your template, so everyone in your organization who uses that template shares it.

Adding comments

  1. Open a template and select a subsection.
  2. Scroll below the fields to Comment library and click Add comment.
  3. Choose a type:
    • Narrative: inserted into one of the subsection's multiline text fields. Pick which field it belongs to.
    • Finding: fills a warning's message and recommendation. You can pin it to one field, or leave it available to any field in the subsection. Findings also carry a severity, used when you start a new warning from one.
  4. Give it a short title. Only you see this, in the picker.
  5. Write the text. Use the merge field buttons, or type {, to insert values that change per inspection.

Merge fields

Merge fieldFills in with
Client name(s)Every client on the inspection
Client first nameThe first client's first name
Property addressThe full property address
Inspection dateThe scheduled date, or "to be scheduled"
Inspector nameYour name
Company nameYour organization's or business's name

Merge fields stay as chips while you edit and are only filled in when the report is viewed or downloaded as a PDF.

Using comments during an inspection

  • Narratives: click Comments next to a multiline field. The picker lists that field's comments first, then others from the same subsection. The comment is inserted where your cursor is.
  • Findings: click Use comment next to a warning's message, either in the subsection or on the Warnings review page.

Search by title or text. Comments you've used recently are listed first.

Saving changes back to the template

When you reword a comment, or write something new that's worth keeping, the inspection's Template step lists it under Comment library. For each one you can:

  • Update the comment it came from (preselected when Eave knows which one),
  • Update a different comment in the same subsection, or
  • Save as a new comment.

Reworded comments are checked by default. Brand-new text is unchecked, since most of it is specific to that house. If someone edited the original comment in the template after this inspection started, you'll see a Conflict badge; updating will replace their edit.
